The Nigerian Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU), Her Excellency Mrs. Nkoyo Toyo on Tuesday 15th September, 2009 paid a courtesy call on Sierra Leone's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Andrew Gbebay Bangali.
The ceremony took place at the Sierra Leone Embassy.
The objective of Her Excellency Mrs. Toyo's visit was to enter into official and personal relations with Ambassador Bangali as that would continue to reflect the friendly and bilateral relationship between both countries.
Ambassador Bangali officially welcomed her to the Sierra Leone Embassy and the diplomatic community in Addis Ababa, and congratulated Her on her appointment.
He recalled the role Nigeria played in resolving the Sierra Leonean conflict and assured the Nigerian envoy that he was always willing and ready to work in collaboration with her. "Sierra Leone is always working closely with Nigeria," he said.
The war in Sierra Leone, he said, was as a result of a spill over effect from Liberia, adding that the current political developments in the Republic of Guinea were very worrisome.
Ambassador Bangali further stated that it was very pivotal for Anglophone countries within ECOWAS to hold regular meetings in order to interface.
Responding, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkoyo Toyo said her appointment as Ambassador was a new learning process for her.
"I am happy fostering a good relationship with Sierra Leone. When you are in the forest you try to listen to familiar voices. West Africa has lots of challenges," she said.
The Nigerian Ambassador said the issue of conflicts was becoming problematic to the sub region citing Guinea and Niger as classical examples.
She spoke of the new faces of conflicts in the sub region and its negative impacts on the continent, adding that "crises relating to change of power are becoming a problem in Africa."
Ambassador Bangali and Ambassador Toyo also spoke about the negative consequences of global warming or rising temperatures on the continent.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of Chancery at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Ethiopia, Mr. Francis Edward Kandeh and the Information Attaché Mr. Abdul Karim Koroma.
